The Natural History Museum – FREE & FUN DAY OUT!

About the Museum

Immerse yourself into the history of planet Earth in the Natural History Museum. Get the chance to explore unique treasures (there are more than 80 million objects) spanning billions of years. Also get the chance to walk amongst and explore dinosaurs, discover ancient geodes and take the opportunity to ride the escalator through the centre of Earth! An eye opening and interesting place to visit!

I visited this museum on a weekday, during the summer holidays and the crowd was intense! It was difficult to move around with the crowd. There are coloured zones to demarcate different themes e.g. Dinosaurs (Blue), Birds, Bugs and Fossils (Green), Planet Earth (Red), however, the layout in the museum is quite confusing.

If you only have the time to visit one part of the museum, start with the Hintze Hall. It is the start of the museum entering from the Cromwell entrance. Be amazed by the skeleton of one of the largest creatures – the blue whale. Spanning over 25 meters long, it is a sight to take in and it feels nice being in the same hall with this creature.

Peppa Pig visits the natural history museum!

From now till September 10, this playroom (located behind the museum shop) offers a fun and immersive experience, perfect for kids if they love Peppa Pig! Kids will get the chance to watch episodes of Peppa Pig while sitting comfortably on bean bags, participate in coloring and craft activities provided, and get the chance to read some Peppa Pig books as well. There are also some Peppa Pig toys and books available for purchase.

On Mondays, get the chance to meet Peppa Pig and her family face to face! And on Wednesdays, there will be a story-telling session throughout the day. We were there on 16 August and the story telling session was at 1300 hrs and 1500 hrs, by Lucy Walters.

Peppa Pig Fans, hurry down now! You have until 10 September to visit the playroom. It is a fun extra activity available when visiting the Natural History Museum.

Our thoughts

WHAT WE LIKED:

  • Endless amount of things to see
  • Dinosaurs and fossils
  • Peppa pig playroom (only available till 10 September 2023)

WHAT CAN BE IMPROVED:

  • In my opinion, i feel that pre-booking timed tickets should be enforced so that it does not get too crowded especially during weekends or during holiday period
  • Would appreciate more signages since the layout can be quite confusing

Would suggest for families with younger kids to plan in advance the zones that you would like to go to or conquer! Otherwise, fatigue might kick in before you manage to complete what you want to see or do. If you have the luxury of time, you can always conquer zone by zone on different trips to the museum!
